Note that the album's lyrical formula seems to go like this: the first three songs are about how much of a badass Ivan Moody is, and how he is going to beat the shit out of everybody 'The Bleeding' through 'White Knuckles' reveal the "tortured artist" he really is inside (though he still wants to beat someone up in 'White Knuckles', in case we have forgotten) 'Can't Heal You' and 'Death Before Dishonor' reveal Ivan Moody the great philosopher, with his commentary on drug addicts or something (the former) and how, like, the government is bad, dude (the latter, with a slick, wince-worthy reference to the band's support of the troops, with Moody likening himself to a soldier) and of course, the obligatory "badass" closer, 'Meet the Monster' and its shitty pseudo-Arabic riff.
I was going to quote some of these lyrics, as they're quite unbelievable, but I wouldn't know where to stop. This guy manages to fulfill every steroid-filled, Phil Anselmo-wannabe, tough guy cliche that I can think of. Forget about those guys though, because it's Ivan Moody who makes this band stand out.
The guitarists are alright, but you've heard this stuff countless times before, and I've managed to forget most of the riffs and solos the second they're over with. Okay, first off, are these drums programmed? Why do so many of these bands do this now? Is it that hard to find a drummer who can play this garbage in the studio? If they were played by a real drummer then that's cool, but they sound so artificial and robotic that there is just no way. FFDP's version of 'Bad Company' somehow made it to like number five on the list. Example: A local magazine posted a poll on Facebook asking what everyone's favorite song by a -local- artist was. I guess I shouldn't even bother writing this since this isn't my preferred style of music, but I'm trying to understand why this band is so popular where I live.
